Owing to their addiction, the Mahadalits are not able to look after their children properly or improve their lifestyle. If you have to drink alcohol, you should take a little of it in the form of medicine," he said.Manjhi had said that he was about 70-year-old, but he had never consumed alcohol in his life.Manjhi questions ‘morality' of womenManjhi questioned the ‘morality' of women whose husbands have been working outside the state after marriage for years.“People from Bihar go to Assam, Maharashtra, and Gujarat to earn livelihood... don't take my words otherwise but this is the truth and I draw flak from several quarters including media for speaking truth. You earn 10,000 and spend more than 5,000 ...we are saying stay in Bihar and look after your family, don't go outside... we are giving you 5,000... stay here, work here,” he said at a function at Jhajhwa Pakdi village in Gopalganj district this week.Upper caste people are foreigners: ManjhiManjhi had recently sparked controversy by branding ‘upper caste people' as ‘foreigners'."The upper caste people are foreigners and descendants of the Aryan race...they have come here from foreign countries. Only tribals and Dalits are indigenous people," the Chief Minister who belongs to the community of Maha-dalits said in West Champaran.Reacting to this, Janata Dal-United legislator Anant Singh described the CM ‘mad' and demanded that Manjhi be sacked."Manjhi has become mad. He should be admitted in a mental hospital. Manjhi should be removed and Nitish Kumar should become chief minister again,” said Anant Singh, who belongs to the upper caste Bhumihar community.Hoarding, black marketing by small traders is no crime: ManjhiManjhi had said that hoarding and black marketing of goods by small traders will not be treated as a crime and asked them not to worry about such activities."I am aware that small traders indulge in hoarding and black marketing of goods to make profit in order to sustain their families and educate their children. You please don't worry about your activities as the state government will not punish you for hoarding and black marketing on small scale," he had said at a function organised by Bihar State Foodgrain Businessmen's Association.Virtually defending hoarding and black marketing by petty traders, the Chief Minister said that he did not mind such activities as the traders were doing it for a noble cause – to sustain their families and educate their children.Dalits should go for inter-caste marriage to 'increase population': ManjhiManjhi stirred up a controversy by asking Dalit youths to marry outside their caste to become a political force in Bihar.Addressing Dalit students at a welfare hostel in Patna, he said, “Dalit youths should go for more and more inter-caste marriage. If we need to become a political force, we need to take our population from 16 to 22 per cent.”The Chief Minister later clarified that his advice had political meanings.“Any party that gets 22 per cent votes comes to power. What I am saying has political meanings,” he said.“My words were misconstrued by media, it hurts me,” he had added.Nitish Kumar failed to curb corruption: ManjhiManjhi said that former chief minister of Bihar and Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar failed to bring down corruption in the state when the latter was in power.Manjhi said his family members had to pay a bribe of Rs 5,000 to electricity department officials to get his power bill modified a couple of years ago.He moved on to say how corruption prevailed in the official machinery from top to bottom.“Corruption is so deep rooted that even Kumar could not bring it down,” he said.“Bihar today faces the biggest challenge of erasing corruption,” he added.I am CM only for a few more days: ManjhiManjhi created fresh flutter saying he was Chief Minister for ‘only a few days' as Kumar is again in two minds.His remark came in the wake of his Cabinet colleagues' decision to give a miss to CM's call for an event.All five leaders, said to be very close to Nitish Kumar, had not turned up for the function he was addressing."I know that I am Chief Minister for a few days only,” Manjhi said.Recently, Manjhis's son-in-law, Devendra Manjhi, who was serving as his personal assistant or PA resigned after a major political controversy.Kumar's attempt to make a Mahadalit the Chief Minister seems to have backfired.I don't win because of your votes: ManjhiManjhi lost his temper at a crowd of protesters at his constituency and shouted ‘I don't win because of your votes'.Manjhi was responding to banners of ‘no electricity, no votes' erected by people during his speech to protest long power cuts in this area in Jehanabad district."You don't scare me. Jitan Ram Manjhi will chop off their hands," Manjhi further said.Anybody can have girlfriend: ManjhiManjhi, who has come under attack over reports of his son getting involved in an alleged sexual escapade with a woman police officer, defended his son saying that anybody could have a girlfriend."Anybody can have a girlfriend...there is no evidence of any wrongdoing against my son", he told the reporters when asked about the incident involving his son.
