4. Netaji escaped from Kolkata, went to Peshawar, and from there he reached Germany. He sought the support of Axis powers -Germany and Japan for his fight against the Britishers. He later moved to Singapore in 1943 and founded the Azad Hind Fauj (Indian National Army). Mainly Indian prisoners of war were a part of the army. The army reached India's border at Manipur in March 1944 via Burma. In the battle at Manipur, the INA lost, and Netaji alongwith his associates fled to territories still occupied by Japan in the Far East.
