Born in 1889 in Allahabad to Motilal Nehru and Swarup Rani, Nehru was a Kashmiri Brahmin and hailed from a wealthy background. His father Motilal Nehru was a noted barrister.
He married Kamla Nehru in 1916 and fathered one daughter, Indira Priyadarshini Nehru, who later became the prime minister of India in 1966.
