Rare pictures of firebrand CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat

New Delhi: The first ever woman member of the CPI(M) Politburo, Brinda Karat has proved her mettle when it comes to fighting for women empowerment.The former general secretary of All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA)




Ever since her college days, Brinda has developed a keen interest in acting and had been a part of many theatrical plays.

In 1967, while working with Air India in London, Brinda launched a protest against mini-skirts as uniform code for women employees. It was during these days that her image as an active participant in women empowerment became more vivid.  On her return to India in 1971 she joined the communist party.
