Bathinda: Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi today offered prayers at Sikh shrine Takht Damdama Sahib at Talwandi Sabo near here.
The Takht Sri Darbar Sahib Damdama Sahib, one of the five seats of temporal authority of Sikhism, is the place where Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru, prepared the full version of the Sikh scriptures called Sri Guru Granth Sahib in 1705.
Rahul is currently on a two-day visit to the the state and yesterday in Faridkot he had met with families of two Sikhs who died in the police firing during a protest against the incident of sacrilege last month.
The party's vice president is expected to visit Bhukianwala to meet the family of a farmer who had recently committed suicide, a Congress leader said. He will undertake a foot walk from Bhukianwala to village Mallwala and interact with village folks. Paddy procurement is under process in Punjab. Besides, Bathinda is the cotton belt of the state and farmers had suffered huge losses here due to whitefly attack on their crop.
Rahul's visit to state seems to have given a shot in the arm to the party with top leaders Amarinder Singh and Partap Singh Bajwa putting a united show.
The Gandhi scion will listen to grievances of farmers during the day, a party leader said.
Rahul had slammed the Parkash Singh Badal government for finding no solution to problems of farmers.
