Chandigarh: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will lead a party delegation to President Pranab Mukherjee to seek a probe by a sitting Supreme Court judge into the alleged police firing on protesters in which two persons were killed at Behbal Kalan area in Faridkot district last month.
Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa said the delegation would submit a memorandum to Mukherjee on November 19.
Rahul, during his visit to the families of the two firing victims-- Gurmit Singh and Krishan Bhagwan Singh-- had promised to take up the case at the highest level in the country.
"The delegation will include the Congress vice president, AICC general secretary and in-charge of Punjab affairs Shakeel Ahmad, Secretaries AICC, PPCC president, Deputy Leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party in Lok Sabha, CLP Leader, former PPCC presidents and IYC president and all sitting Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members from Punjab," Bajwa said here today.
Police had allegedly opened fire on people sitting on a 'dharna' in protest against the sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib at Bargari village. Two persons were killed and several others got injured in the firing.
Bajwa alleged that the FIR registered in the case was blind as no accused responsible for firing had been named in it, which he said amounted to hoodwinking the people.
He asserted the Congress was determined to get justice to the aggrieved families as besides the killing of these two persons, others had been injured.
