New Delhi : President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday greeted Muslims on the start of the holy month of Ramadan.
”I greet all my Muslim brothers and sisters on the occasion of the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan.
”May the spirit of Ramadan illuminate the world, show us the way to peace and harmony and remind us of our duties towards the less privileged,” he said.
Among the Muslim festivals in the country, it is Id-Ramzan which is said to be the most popular festival and holds great religious significance . Id-Ramzan is also known as Eid ul-Fitr and sometimes plainly referred to as Eid.
Ramadan is observed by Muslims in India and across the world as fasting to commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to Muhammad according to Islamic belief.
