New Delhi, July 5: Two candidates—UPA nominee Pranab Mukherjee and opposition-backed P A Sangma -- were left in the fray for the July 19 Presidential poll at the end of the nomination process on wednesday.
As many as 86 persons had filed 106 applications since the nominations began on Jun 16 till June 30.
Thirty-three applications filed by 28 persons were rejected at the time of presentation itself as they were not accompanied by a certified copy of the electoral roll.
Out of the 73 nomination papers taken up for scrutiny, 65 nomination papers were rejected for want of requisite numbers of proposers and seconders, non-submission of the deposit of Rs 15,000 and lack of genuine signatures of proposers and seconders.
Today was the last date for withdrawal of candidature.
