Ms Mukherjee said here today: "I am utterly shocked and anguished by this statement. I have known him since childhood, and I don't know why he did say that. I apologize on his behalf."
The sister goes on say: "We have been brought up in different ways."
On protests against gangrape, Sharmistha Mukherjee said, "I have said earlier too, that this protest is not about a case, it is about an array of such rape cases and the laws should be made strict. Moreover, quick implementation of law is important. It's the responsibility of the state to provide security to women."
