New Delhi: Voting is underway for the fourth and penultimate phase of the Bihar elections involving 55 assembly constituencie.

* A section of voters in Kalyanpur, East Champaran have boycotted voting in protest against lack of electricity in their area

* The fourth phase covers seven districts of north and western Bihar – West Champaran, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj and Siwan.
* Voting begins or the fourthphase of the Bihar elections
* Voting will be held from 7 am to 5 p.m. in 43 seats, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. in eight others and from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the remaining four.
* Altogether 1163 companies (each comprising 100 personnel) of Central Paramilitary Force and state police has been posted to ensure free and fair elections.
* A total of 1,46,93,294 electorate will be able to cast vote on 14,139 polling stations to elect their representatives from 776 candidates of which 57 are women.
* NDA is eyeing major gains in Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, Purvi Champaran and Paschim Champaran. Buoyed by the reports of the party doing very well in the polling on October 28, the party is hopeful of better perofrmance in the fourth phase also.
* From NDA, the BJP has fielded its nominees in 42 seats, Lok Janshakti Party in 5 and Hindustanti Awam Morcha and Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP) in 4 seats each.
* From Mahagathbandhan RJD has fielded 26 candidates whereaes JD(U) has fileded 21 candidates and Congress on 8 seats.
* It will be a crucial contest for both the BJP and JD(U), as they had together bagged 51 out of the 55 seats as NDA partners in 2010 polls.
* The fourth phase saw high voltage campaigning with both BJP-led NDA and JD(U)-RJD-Congress alliance accusing each other of trying to polarise voters on communal lines.
