Bharatiya Janata Party chief Nitin Gadkari on Sunday  attacked Congress saying the party does not follow democracy and even stalwarts like Prime Minister Manmohan Singh or Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee cannot think of becoming party president.

Gadakari at a convention here wondered "if Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh or Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee can ever dream of becoming president of the Congress party". In his valedictory address at the Maharashtra BJP convention here he said, "There is no democracy in Congress and that party calls us (BJP) undemocratic,". Continuing his attack on the Congress over the Amitabh Bachchan controversy, Gadkari today said it was a party of slavery.

Attitude of Congressmen towards Big B was out of apprehension that the party president Sonia Gandhi might not like it, he said. "Is Amitabh Bachchan Dawood Ibrahim," he asked stating that Congress behaviour towards the Bollywood icon was undemocratic.

Speaking about the Bandra-Worli sea link where the entire controversy started after Bachchan was invited at its inauguration, Gadkari said the sealink was inaugurated even though it was incomplete. "It was the Sena-BJP government in the state which initiated the project and now Congress-NCP are reaping its fruits," he said.  Referring to rise in prices, he said the policies of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and the UPA government were responsible for inflation.

"Whenever there has been a non-Congress government at the centre, inflation has been low," Gadkari remarked. Referring to his 14 questions to the Prime Minister on price rise, Gadkari said none of the congress leaders had answered them because they did not have answers. The BJP president also hit out at the congress for creating insecurity in the minds of minorities about the BJP. "It was the BJP which made A P J Abdul Kalam the President of India," he said. Gadkari also advised party workers to increase party's base among SC/STs and minorities. PTI
