New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday paid floral tribute to late prime minister Charan Singh on his birth anniversary.
"A tall mass leader who dedicated his life to the welfare of farmers and the poor, I salute Chaudhary Charan Singhji on his birth anniversary," he said in a tweet.
Chaudhary Charan Singh was born in a Jat family in 1902 in village Noorpur of Hapur district in Uttar Pradesh. He entered politics as part of the Independence Movement.

Chaudhary Charan Singh was the sixth Prime Minister of India. He was in office from July 28, 1979 to January 14, 1980.
Recently, the Uttar Pradesh government has declared birth anniversary of Chaudhary Charan Singh on December 23 as a public holiday.
