Ufa: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif on Thursday evening at a dinner hosted by Russian President Vladimir Putin in Ufa.

The informal meeting between two leaders took place on the eve of their first bilateral talks.

Modi and Sharif greeted each other and exchanged pleasantries, reports said, adding that the two chatted briefly when they came face-to-face at a dinner hosted for leaders of five BRICS countries and 10 Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) nations.

Officials said that the brief interaction set the tone for today's formal meeting between them on the sidelines of the SCO.

Today, Modi and Sharif will have their first official meeting since May last year. The bilateral talks between the two sides will take place on the sideline of SCO Summit.

Reports stated that PM Modi will, once again, strongly raise India's concerns on terror with Pakistan and that all outstanding issues will be brought to the table.

"Terrorism for India is a major concern," an official said, indicating that the issue could be taken up by Modi at the meeting.

Modi and Sharif were last together in Kathmandu in November last for the SAARC Summit but they did not have a bilateral meeting because of acrimony between the two countries at that time.
