New Delhi:Many people in politics today owe their initial days to those days of Emergency and the JP movement when "a new political generation was born", said Prime Minister Narendra Modi who paid rich tributes to Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan on his 113 birth anniversary.

While heavily criticising the emergency era Modi said," Emergency did a lot of damage to nation, it was an attack on India's democratic tradition."

"We need not cry remembering emergency, it should be remembered to acknowledge strength of democracy & make coming generations aware about it, " the Prime Minister added.

Terming  Parkash Singh Badal the 'Nelson Mandela of India'  prime minister said,  this great leader spent almost two decades in prison in indepndent  India for political reasons.
The political generation born during the Emergency was fully dedicated to democratic values, inspired by J.P., the prime minister said while speaking at Loktantra Prahari Abhinandan in Vigyan Bhavan here.

"So many people in politics today owe their initial days to those days of Emergency and the JP movement. A new political generation was born," Modi added.

He said that "when we remember likes of Gandhi-ji, J.P., Nanaji (Deshmukh), we always think about integrating the villages of India".

Prime minister also said that India's media might have its likes and dislikes but it should never let people of this country forget the days of emergency period.

Without taking the name of any particulra family, Modi also said there are some families who gain a place in history books even if blood spilled from their nails.
