New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party's  victory in Delhi polls could reverberate in the upcoming budget session in parliament as well as  in poll bound states.

An emboldened Opposition looks all set to counter the Modi-regime in the upcoming budget session, especially by blocking in the Rajya Sabha bills to replace the ordinances on land acquisition and FDI in insurance sector.

Opposition parties plan to block the government's reform drive and take the sheen of the Modi regime away, and trigger debate within Sangh Parivar, while reinforcing Opposition unity in the coming electoral battles against BJP.

Three Union ministers have expressed reservations about the land acquisition bill and the issuance of so many ordinances. The government may also think twice before calling a joint session of Parliament in the wake of this electoral defeat as it would not like to be seen as riding rough shod to get its bills through.

"Only four joint sessions of Parliament have been called since 1952. Moreover, not all pending bills can be pushed through in a joint session," a Rajya Sabha MP told Economic Times.

Situation for BJP get worse due to a section within the party and the Sangh Parivar who espouse the Hindutva agenda.

"India has a history of a single by-election result changing the fortune of an entire Opposition looking battered and governments that appeared invincible. It happened when Sharad Yadav won a by-election from Jabalpur as a prelude to the formation of Janata Party against Indira Gandhi. Similarly, when an ousted Indira Gandhi won the Chikmagalur bypoll, it marked the beginning of her come-back and problems for the Janata Party. VP Singh's by poll victory from Allahabad cemented Opposition unity against Rajiv Gandhi which led to his ouster soon. BJP decimation in Delhi within eight months after Modi regime took charge could similarly mark the turning point in national politics, " an opposition leader told ET.
