B'day special: Omar Abdullah, the youngest Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir

New Delhi: Hailing from the first family of Jammu and Kashmir state, Omar Abdullah has inherited the qualities of leading a state from his father Farooq Abdullah who is the former Chief Minister of J&K and his grandfather Sheikh Abdullah who became the first Prime Minister of Kashmir.Born in United Kingdom on 10th March 1970, Omar Abdullah got the opportunity to become the youngest Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. Prior to taking over the seat of J&K chief minister, Omar handled the profile of Union Minister of State for External Affairs under Atal Bihari government.Omar took over the chief ministership of the J&K state with an aim to promote tourism and put the disruptive events of terrorism to an end. He paved a new pathway to resolve the forgotten conflict of Kashmir's independence.After Omar's meeting with former Pakistani president Parvez Musharraf in 2006, Omar bagged the opportunity of organizing the first ever meeting between a Kashmiri leader and the Pakistani president.At an early age of 29, Omar was elected into 12th Lok Sabha in 1998 and became the youngest minister. In 2002, Omar took over his father's position and became the National Conference Party. Omar lost his Ganderbal seat in Kashmir assembly elections in 2002. After being elected as the National Conference party president once again in 2006, Omar arranged a meeting with Pakistani President Parvez Musharraf despite much hostile response from the center.In 2009, Omar took over as the 11th Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.Omar married Payal Nath but after a prolonged strained relationship, the couple decided to part ways and started living separately.
