Patna: RJD President Lalu Prasad's claim that no government can run without his party's support has touched off diverse political reaction in the state.

Addressing a public meeting at East Champaran district yesterday, Prasad had said that no government could run either at the Centre or in Bihar without RJD's support.

He had further said that his party was “pushing” the Nitish Kumar government to run, to stop BJP. The RJD supremo said Kumar and others had gone here and there and when they saw that the path chosen by them was fraught with “danger”, they returned to the old fold of Janata Parivar.

He said the next government in the state would function “only with the support of RJD”.

Prasad's assertion left allies looking for words to react, but the BJP launched an attack against Prasad with Union Minister for State for Rural Development Ramkripal Yadav claiming at Begusarai that Prasad had been “finished politically”.

“In order to keep himself alive in media, he gives such statements and people remember him,” Yadav, once a protege of the RJD chief, who rebelled against him on denial of ticket from Pataliputra seat in favour of his daughter Misa Bharti, said.

State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shrawan Kumar pointed out that the RJD had extended unconditional support to JD(U) government in Bihar.

RJD Chief Whip in Assembly Bhai Birendra backed Prasad's assertion, saying it was a fact that the JD(U) government was running in the state with the help of RJD and Congress.  “So what wrong he (Prasad) has said this?” he told reporters.
