Hyderabad: No alliance can save Samajwadi Party from an impending defeat in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi said today, a day after UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav expressed possibility of having a Bihar-like front in his state.

"No alliance can save Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh. People are fed up with Samajwadi Party. They are neither fulfilling promises nor focusing on governance. They are not controlling law and order.

"They are not going to make any benefit. They are going and will go, God willing," Owaisi, the Lok Sabha member from Hyderabad, told reporters here.

Taking a cue from the massive victory of the Grand Alliance against BJP in Bihar, Akhilesh had said that such a tie-up was possible in the state and suggested that the front could involve ruling Samajwadi Party and Mayawati-led BSP, similar to Bihar where rivals RJD chief Lalu Prasad and JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar came together and decimated the BJP.

MIM has been making efforts to expand its base in various parts of the country with Owaisi himself touring Uttar Pradesh on different occasions.

The MIM, however, drew a blank in the Bihar Assembly polls where it had made the foray in Seemanchal region.

The party had won two seats in Maharashtra elections last year.

Asked about UP minister Azam Khan's comments that the "superpowers" should think whether the Paris attack was a "reaction" to the "killing of innocents" in Arab countries, Owaisi said, "May be he (Azam) is an expert on international terrorism. I am not".

The MIM president condemned the Paris terror attacks by ISIS, saying that several Islamic scholars have disapproved of violence by the terror group.
