Senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday in Hyderabad demanded setting up of two separate Joint Parliamentary Committees to probe into the controversial IPL deals and alleged phone tapping of key political leaders.

"A transparent and independent inquiry alone can establish the truth and setting up of JAC would pave the way for cleansing both cricket as well as the functioning of Central intelligence agencies," Naidu said while addressing the first office-bearers meeting of party's state unit here.

He alleged the Congress-led UPA has misused various Central agencies to achieve their short-term gains and to muster political support when required during critical times.

Referring to controversial IPL deals, Naidu said the probe must cover source of funds, charges of betting, match fixing in cricket, diversion of money through hawala and also alleged misuse of government positions by certain people.

Naidu said the success of BJP's recent rally to Parliament was an indication of growing discontentment among people with the Centre as it has failed on various fronts, including controlling the price rise and growing naxal menace.

The BJP leader called upon the newly-appointed office bearers and party cadre to work hard to further strengthen the party base in Andhra Pradesh.

"There is a vacuum in the state as the ruling party has proved to be incompetent, divided and confused and same is the case with the Opposition which is following the footsteps of the ruling party and adopting pseudo-secular policies," he said. PTI
