Nagpur: Devendra Fadnavis was yesterday accorded with a grand welcome by people of Nagpur on his first visit to his hometown after becoming the Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
44-year-old Fadnavis is the first Chief Minister to hail from the state's second capital.
He was elected to the Legislative Assembly from Nagpur south-west constituency in last month's elections, and sworn in as the Chief Minister on Friday.
On his arrival at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Mayor Pravin Datke officially welcomed him in the presence of thousands of BJP workers.
Afterwards, the Chief Minister rode in an open-top vehicle, decked up like a chariot, alongwith his wife Amrutaand local BJP leaders followed by a procession of party workers on motorcycles.
The whole city wore a festive look, with hoardings, banners, arches and rangoli creations welcoming the Chief Minister as he proceeded to his residence in Dharampeth area.
He briefly stopped on the way to offer flowers at the statue of RSS founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar.
