Ahmedabad: Gandhinagar will soon be moving to Lutyens' Delhi for lock, stock and file notings. Along with Hasmukh Adhia, the number of serving bureaucrats who have moved to New Delhi from Gujarat to occupy crucial positions after the Narendra Modi government took charge has reached six.
The prime minister has brought to Delhi his trusted band of lieutenants from Gujarat.
Only two of Modi's inner circle bureaucrats during his stint as Gujarat CM — K Kailashnathan and GC Murmu — haven't shifted to the Capital and out of these two, Kailashnathan has stayed on in the Gujarat chief minister's office positioned as chief principal secretary, a contractual appointment since he's past retirement age whereas GC Murmu is now the principal secretary to the chief minister.
Before the new government took charge at least eight of the senior Gujarat cadre IAS officers were serving at the Centre. Recently, Adhia was named financial services secretary in the finance ministry. Other members who come under Modi's band are Arvind Sharma and Sanjay Bhavsar working in the Prime Minister's Office, HK Dash in the interstate council in the ministry of home affairs, Rajesh Kishore in the National Human Rights Commission, and Guruprasad Mohapatra in the ministry of commerce.
Moreover, prime minister's additional principal secretary PK Mishra, is also a retired Gujarat cadre IAS officer who served as principal secretary to Modi when he was chief minister in 2001-04.
