Lucknow, Aug 3: A ruling Bahujan Samaj Party MLA in Uttar Pradesh, Krishna Kumar Singh alias Satish Verma, today joined the Samajwadi Party and was swiftly suspended from the BSP by party supremo Mayawati.
The BSP would also file a petition before the Assembly Speaker for disqualification of Verma who represents Mallawan constituency in Hardoi district in the House. In a statement here, Mayawati said “the act of the MLA comes under the ambit of the Anti-Defection Law and the party will petition the Speaker for his disqualification.” She said before joining the SP, the legislator should have resigned from the party as he was elected on the BSP ticket.
Mayawati said the party had decided not to field him in the upcoming assembly election as a number of complaints were pouring him against him.
“The MLA was not paying heed to problems of the people in his constituency and was giving priority to personal and family gains,” she said.
In yet another setback to the ruling BSP, Verma joined the SP earlier in the day.
“Two-time sitting MLA Verma has joined the Samajwadi Party expressing faith in its ideologies and policies,” senior SP leader Mohd Azam Khan told reporters here. SP UP chief Akhilesh Yadav said Verma would be party's candidate from Mallawan constituency in place of Rajesh Yadav for next year's assembly election.
On July 25, a BSP MLA from Jalalapur in Ambedkar Nagar, Sher Bahadur Singh, had joined the SP and he too was suspended from the party. PTI
