Howrah (WB), Apr 23: Rejecting Prime minister Manmohan Singh's statement about the ‘dismal' situation of West Bengal on law and order, education and other fronts, CPI(M) state Secretary Biman Bose today said the PM made such remarks out of “electoral compulsions”.

“Singh's comments about the state are wrong made under electoral compulsions. We understand he had to utter these things as it was a poll meeting,” Bose told reporters shortly after addressing an election rally at Panchla in Howrah district.

On Congress President Sonia Gandhi's recent comments at several election meetings about lack of rural development in the state under the 34 years of Left rule, Bose shot back, “I doubt how much real experience Sonia Gandhi has about the villages.”

“How many villages she has visited,” the state Left Front chairman asked.

Bose also blamed UPA allies Trinamool Congress and Congress of keeping mum over the galloping food prices.  “While the common man is reeling under price rise, the TC and Congress are spending crores of rupees for advertisement. We know people will judge everything,” he said.  Bose expressed confidence of left front having fared well in the first two phase of polls already held in Bengal.PTI
