Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Wednesday expressed "full solidarity" with the silent protest march called by the Christian community in Delhi Thursday against attacks on churches.
"We extend our full solidarity and support to the procession in Delhi tomorrow (Thursday) 5 Feb at 9.30 AM from GPO to Home Minister Rajnath Singh's) residence," Banerjee tweeted.
In another tweet, the Trinamool Congress chief apparently targeted the BJP, without naming it. "One party is doing petty politics," she alleged.
Banerjee said the procession would protest against "many attacks on Churches in Delhi in the last 2 months".
The capital has witnessed five attacks on churches in the last two months but despite the home ministry's intervention, little has been done to prevent or solve the cases.
After a church in west Delhi's Vikaspuri was vandalized last month, Delhi's Archbishop Anil JT Couto had said, "a clear pattern of orchestrated attacks is emerging as more and more churches are targeted, vandalised and set on fire."
