Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today performed Kali Puja at her residence at Kalighat area in the southern part of the city.
Banerjee, who fasted during the day and prepared the ‘bhog' (offering to the Goddess), played host to scores of guests, which included VVIPs, cabinet colleagues, politicians and commoners.
The doors of Banerjee's spartan home at Harish Chatterjee Street here were thrown open today to the public.
Clad in her trade mark cotton saree and rubber slippers, Banerjee stood with folded hands and greeted the people and VIPs at her single storey house for the puja, which she has been holding for the last 36 years since 1978, during her days as student leader.
Apart from thousands of commoners and Trinamool Congress supporters who visited Banerjee's residence, a group of 50 old women from a nearby NGO also visited her house and took part in the celebration.
Keeping in mind the large number of visitors at Banerjee's residence, the police strengthened security arrangements in and around the area.
