Pune: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today promised power sector reforms and said his government will work to reduce electricity tariff for industry by one and a half rupee per unit to boost industrial development.

“We are undertaking power sector reforms and in the coming days we plan to reduce electricity tariff by one and a half rupee to promote industrial development and also stabilise rates for domestic consumption”, he said.

Speaking about his ‘Vision for Maharashtra' under the aegis of the spring lecture series here, the Chief minister said that Maharashtra lacks infrastructure for industry and his government has undertaken ports development with rail connectivity to handle bigger cargo to boost sea trade.

Fadnavis also took an indirect dig at Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi for his description of the Modi government as a “suit-boot government” and said that with his ‘Make In India' mission, Prime Minister Modi had made the country a “global investment destination”.

“India is a young nation. If we do not bring technological skills to our youth, our demographic advantage will turn into a demographic disaster”, he said.

Fadnavis said farmers' suicides in Maharashtra are a “blot” on the state. He further said that is government had accorded top priority to water conservation and water management to reduce their dependence on just one cash crop as well as encourage a multi-crop pattern to sustain them during natural disasters or adverse climatic conditions.
