New Delhi: The Opposition today demanded the resignation of union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti for using abusive language at a BJP rally in Delhi.

Opposition MPs also demanded suspension of the question hour. MPs said there can be no question hour till Niranjan Jyoti resigns.

Congress maintained that Niranjan Jyoti's remark can lead to 3 years of imprisonment under Section 153 A of IPC.

Senior Congress leader Anand Sharma said, "The Prime Minister should dismiss the minister. The matter does not end with apology."

"Niranjan Jyoti should resign for her comments. If she does not, then the Prime Minister should sack her from his Cabinet", lashed out BSP Supremo Mayawati.

CPI leader Sitaram Yechury demanded Niranjan Jyoti's resignation. "We demand the minister be expunged from the ministry. I do not think what she has said is an apology," he says.

Speaker Sumitra Mahajan adjourned the Lok Sabha for 10 minutes following the Opposition's demands.
