Live reporting: AAP celebrates victory at Jantar Mantar

New Delhi: Several thousand supporters of Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party today gathered at the Janatar Mantar here to celebrate the win of 28 of their party candidates in the Delhi assembly elections. Most of the supporters were seen wearing camps and holding tricolours, with patriotic songs blaring out from the stage. AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal, his close advisers and all 28 newly elected MLAs attended the celebrations. Here is a blow-by-blow account of the AAP celebrations at Jantar Mantar:7:10pm- One more thing, I had asked people to stop giving donations but now we are planning to fight from across the country and we need more donations. Therefore, please come with donations to the party.7:06pm- Arvind Kejriwal: Tomorrow, Kumar Vishwas and I will visit Anna at Ralegan Siddhi. Anna has said that he will not allow politicians to sit on his stage. I'll respect that and will sit in the row meant for common people.7:04pm- Arvind Kejriwal: Anna is sitting on fast once again for Jan Lokpal. The govt says that it will get the Lokpal bill passed in parliament as it's already been passed by Lok Sabha and the approval of only Rajya Sabha is required. But the bill passed by Lok Sabha is ‘Jokepal' and not ‘Lokpal'7:02pm- Arvind Kejriwal: I would request all good people in this country to join AAP and fight for the country. The day all good people will join hands, India will once again become a ‘golden bird'.7:00pm- Arvind Kejriwal: Both BJP and Congress are corrupt and communal. Don't vote for BJP again because its' running away from taking the responsibility of forming the government.6:59 pm: The BJP for the first time has said that they will not indulge in horse trading for forming the government. I would request them to assure the people of this country that they will not indulge in horse trading after 2014 elections. 6:58pm: Arvind Kejriwal: I request all my candidates either winners or losers to go back to people and work for them. It's going to be a long battle.6:56pm- Arvind Kejriwal: Alcohol was distributed in slums to buy their votes but I must appreciate the people living in slums who accepted alcohol supplied to them but still voted for AAP.6:54pm – Arvind Kejriwal: Not only this, just after 5pm, TV channels started showing exit polls and predicted a landslide win for BJP. Those who were standing in cues got confused and voted for BJP just in order to stop wastage of theit votes by voting for AAP.6:52pm- Arvind Kejriwal: We could have easily got majority but for conspiracies hatched against us. In 16 assembly constituencies, dummy independent candidates were put up with ‘torch' symbol that resembles so much with our ‘broom' symbol. This was done to confuse our voters.6:50pm- Arvind Kejriwal: History was created on Dec 8. But I would request all our MLAs and leaders not to get arrogant. You have been given big responsibilities by people. Now don't become leaders and MLAs. You are just servants of people. What is the point in celebrating with crackers?6:48pm- Arvind Kejriwal: These elections have been fought by common man. Rakhi Birla, a simple and young girl, defeated Raj Kumar Chauhan from Mongolpuri. Chauhan was a minister and was winning from that seat from last four terms. 6:46pm- Arvind Kejriwal: These volunteers didn't come either for me or the pary. They came because they wanted to change the country.6:45pm- Arvind Kejriwal: Many of our volunteers have come from abroad. Many of them have left their jobs for supporing us in these elections.6:44pm- Arvind Kejriwal: Today I pay tribute to our late sister Santosh Koli. Today her soul must be happy with these election results. 6.42pm- Arvind Kejriwal: It was never our aim to get power through winning elections. And this meeting is aimed at interacting with our volunteers. 6:40pm- Arvind Kejriwal: First of all, let me make one thing clear. We are not here to celebrate victory. How can we celebrate victory til the time this country faces corruption and poverty. 6:25pm-Manish Sisodiya: Earlier, AAP was called a ‘4-man' party. Today we are a 28 MLA's party.6:26pm: Manish Sisodiya: People used to laugh at us. Some leaders said we can't even win 1 seat. Where are they now?6:28pm- Manish Sisodiya: We'll fight from across the country- from Kashmir to Kanya Kumari. Even Kashmiri youths wants to get rid of corrupt and goon type leaders. They are fed up with dynastic policies.6:30pm- Manish Sisodiya: TV channels are saying that Kumar Vishwash has dared Arun Jaitley to contest against AAP from any seat in Delhi. I would say that forget Jaitley, many of our young leaders are ready to fight against even ‘Yuvraj'.6:17pm- Prashant Bhushan: The govt says it wants to pass 'Jan Lokpal' but their version of 'Jan Lokpal'is different from what Anna had demanded.6:15pm- Prashant Bhushan:For fighting corruption, we initiated 'Jan Lokpal' movement. The politicians challanged us to fight elections if we wanted to implement 'Jan Lokpal'.Thye challanged us becuase they thought elections can't be won with honesty. Today we have proved them wrong.6:10pm-Prashant Bhushan: Radia tapes throw light on how corporate mafia has established its grip over BJP and Congress.The conversation in these tapes make it clear as to who is running this country. They talk to all leaders, even journalists. Even editorials are being written on their instructions.5:44pm- Sanjay Singh: The vedict has been a slap on the faces of those people who conspired against us and tried to discredit our candidates5:42pm- Sanjay Singh: Numerous conspiracies were hatched against us in these elections. Fake sting operations were conducted against our candidates. Tapes were tampered and portions where our candidates said that they won't compromise were deleted.5:40pm – Sanjay Singh: We have won 28 seats and have come second on 20 seats. It means that we have performed exceedingly well on 48 seats. We'll win all these seats next time.5:35pm – Sanjay Singh: We started ‘Jan Lokpal' movement from the same ‘Jantar Mantar'. Today I'm happy that people of Delhi have proved those people wrong who believed that elections can't be won without money and muscle power. It has been proved by the victories of Rakhi Birla, Dharmendra Koli and many others.5:30pm-Gopal Rai: Go to your constituencies, work hard and prepare for elections.5:28pm: Gopal Rai: Arvind Kejriwal will become the CM of Delhi. Nobody can stop this. 5:27pm- Gopal Rai: Anna, Please break your fast. your Lokpal will be coming in Delhi. We'll bring it through door to dootr campaign.5:26 pm- Kumar Vishwas: I dare Arun Jaitley to contest against AAP from any seat in Delhi.5: 07 pm: Yogendra Yadav: "You have made politics a temple of honesty. We were sitting in a restaurant wearing topis the other day. An unknown man just came, and kissed the hand of one of our supporters. You have revived the faith of people in politics. You did the thing which the political parties failed to do in the past 50 years. This was a first election campaign conducted with donations, with every paisa accounted for, and then we refused to accept more donations. Our treasurer said, the Rs 20 crore that we collected was enough, and some money is still left. Bu what about those parties who collected Rs 1300 crores?"5:05 pm: Yogendra Yadav: "An electoral win is not in numbers. We and you won a moral victory. Politics had come to mean muscle power, money power, making money from power, and grabbing power on the strength of money, black money dealings. You have changed the definition of politics today."5:03 pm: AAP leader and former psephologist Yogendra Yadav takes the mike. Says: "BSP founder Kanshi Ram used to say, the first election is fought to lose, the second to defeat others, and the third to win. today we have completed two and a half steps within a span of 1 year 4 months. We don't have the numbers for majority. We could have won 38 to 45 seats, but we were beaten in the "last 24 hour tikdam (machinations)" before the polls. We refused to indulge in such machinations (ready money, liquor).Yogendra Yadav: "Now the entire nation has acknowledged our success. Those who are four seats short of majority, are hiding, unwilling to form govt. 4:51 pm: Kumar Vishwas goes on introducing the new MLAs. When Kejriwal's turn comes, Kumar Vishwas says: "Vidhayakji, khade ho jaiye (Mr MLA, please stand up)" Kejriwal stands up and waves to the applauding crowd. Kumar Vishwas: Whom did he defeat? Answers himself: "Aadraniya Sheila Dikshitji ". Kumar Vishwas: Sheilaji once described AAP people as "worms of Monsoon", she didn't know that worms can destroy a chair from within.4:50 pm: Kumar Vishwas introduces each of the MLAs. Introduces Rakhi Birla who defeated minister Raj Kumar Chouhan. Asks, by how much margin? Rakhi replies: 10,585 votes. Kumar Vishwas: She says, next time, she will win by 20,000 votes. 4:50 pm: On the stage backdrop is written Aam Aadmi Party, the beginning of honest politics.4:45 pm: All newly elected AAP MLAs stand up waving their hands to supporters, as some of them shower flowers at the MLAs.4:29 pm: Arvind Kejriwal with Manish Sisodia and Kumar Vishwas comes on stage, waves to supporters4:25 pm: It is not victory celebrations, it's a thanksgiving event, say AAP leaders, as newly elected MLAs sit on stage. 4 pm: The stage is still vacant, awaiting the arrival of AAP leaders and MLAs. 3: 30 pm: Several thousand cap-wearing AAP supporters sat on the ground in front of the stage, many of them holding tricolours. Many supporters have come from outside. "We want to see a new political system. We are fed up of the 60 year old political system. Corruption will be removed. This is our firm conviction", several of the supporters said.
