Modi was addressing a rally in Kochi of Kerala.This meeting was organised by Kerala Pulaya Maha Sabha, an outfit of one of Kerala's leading scheduled caste communities. The rally was organised to mark the centenary of "Kayal samaran", a protest by Dalits against denial or right to organise themselves. “Those doing votebank politics are expert in doing 'zeher ki kheti'. Ranganath Mishra commission is an example of this Zeher Ki Kheti. Ranganath Commission wants to take back our rights,” said Modi.Modi said that he belonged to a poor family and that his mother used to wash utensils and he himself sold teas.Tracing his roots to the marginalized sections of the society , Modi said,”Dalits and backward castes are my family, I was born and brought up among them.”Modi called upon Dalit community to focus on the education of their children and get rid of evil customs. The BJP is projecting the invitation extended to Modi by the outfit as a sign of his increasing acceptability among backward classes.After this rally, Modi left for Thiruvananthapuram where he will address his second rally at Sankhumugham beach.
