Kolkata, Mar 8: The CPI(M)-led ruling Left Front will meet here on March 13 to finalise its election manifesto for the ensuing Assembly elections in West Bengal.

"We will meet here on March 13 to finalise Left Front's election manifesto which will highlight our programmes for the people," Chief Minister and CPI(M) leader

Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee told an election rally at Jadavpore in the southern part of the city tonight.

Bhattacharjee said that the Front would project its resolve to develop the state industrially after its tremendous success in the agricultural front. "It is not possible to ensure progress only on the basis of success in agriculture. It requires equal development in the industrial sector which we promise to usher in when we get the mandate for the Left Front's eighth consecutive term," he said.

Regretting that the setback in Singur in 2009 had paid the state dearly, he said, "Our industrial progress cannot be deterred at any cost. Some people misunderstood us when Singur project (small car unit of the Tatamotors) was taken up. But there has been no let-up in the flow of capital after Singur. “We acquired 6,000 acres after Singur but with caution.”

The chief minister said state's IT sector held a bright prospects with the arrival of Infosys and others. "We hope it will create jobs for two lakh young people.

Besides, we promise to develop manufacturing sector, cement, plastics, food processing, bio-technology and drug units which have great potential in our state to grow rapidly."

Bhattacharjee charged the Trinamool Congress with joining hands with Maoists to create trouble in the state, and said his government would not tolerate violence any longer."We want peace and urge all to follow path of peace. We have asked the agitators in Darjeeling hills too not to create trouble and resolve disputes through

talks," he said. The CPI(M) politburo member once again asked erring party leaders and workers to change and apologise to the voters for their lapses and win back their confidence. PTI
