New Delhi: Former foreign secretary Sujatha Singh has said that she wasn't consulted at the time when former IPL commissioner Lait Modi got his travel documents in UK.
"I have no idea about this case. I don't recall a single paper related to this," Singh said.
Sujatha's statement assumes significance in the backdrop of her responsibilities in the Ministry of External Affairs. Singh was the Foreign Secretary in July last year, when Modi was handed over his travel documents in UK with proper consent from New Delhi.
Reports said that said she should have been the first person to be consulted on the issue because Singh was given the task to look after the UK, among other countries, as Foreign Secretary.
Singh was asked to vacate the post in January this year.
A controversy erupted after Sunday Times of London reported that Modi was granted visa to Portugal with the consent and recommendation of Sushma Swaraj.
Modi moved to London in 2010 amid Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation of FEMA violations amounting to 425 crore in IPL TV rights deal by Lalit Modi in 2009.
