New Delhi: Vasundhara Raje Scindia, the former Rajasthan CM, is today the most popular face of BJP in the state. After the demise of veteran BJP leader and former Vice-president of India Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, Vasundhara has positioned herself as first among equals in the party hierarchy as far as Rajasthan BJP is concerned. Today she addressed a rally at Jaipur where both party president Rajnath Singh and the chairman of BJP's election campaign committee Narendra Modi were also present. From the proceedings, it was very clear that once again, the party has made up its mind about handing over the reins of power to Vasundhara in case the BJP makes a comeback in Rajasthan in upcoming assembly elections slated to be held in November this year.So who is Vasundhara Raje Scindia? Let's have a look at her personal life and political journey.Born in the royal family of his highness Jivaji Rao Scindia, Vasundhara learned social and political issues from her mother Rajmata Vijaya Raje Scindia, ever since she was a teenager . Vasundhara developed a relation with the state of Rajasthan only after she tied a knot with the ruler of Dholpur, Maharaja Hemant Singh.In 1984, Vasundhara entered mainstream politics and joined the national working committee of BJP. She was the vice president of State BJP Yuva Morcha for two years (1984-86).She became a representative of the Dhoplur constituency in Rajasthan assembly. In 1987 she became the vice president of Rajasthan state unit of BJP and in 1989 she was elected as an MP from Jhalawar. Her popularity grew to such an extent that she won the Jhalawar seat for five consecutive terms. The recognition which she had gained over a period of time bagged her the important portfolio of Minister of State for External Affairs in 1998 in Atal Bihari Vajpayee's government.Having a long list of achievements was still far from over and in 2003 Vasundhra Raje did the unimaginable. She was elected as the first ever woman Chief Minister of Rajasthan on December 8, 2003. She continued in office till December 2008.
