Know Rakhi Birla- the youngest ever cabinet minister of Delhi

New Delhi: The story of Delhi's youngest cabinet minister Rakhi Birla is both interesting and inspiring.The first impression that one gets from the surname ‘Birla' is that she must be belonging to a wealthy family but the reality is that she comes from a very humble background.She had declared assets worth just Rs. 51, 150 while filing her nomination paper for Delhi assembly elections.And the story of her surname' Birla' is equally interesting. She was actually born to Sheila and Bhupendra Singh ‘Bidhlan' in 1987 in Delhi.She inherited the title ‘Bidhlan' but her school administration mistakenly wrote ‘Birla' instead of ‘Bidlan' in her class 10th certificate. And from there onwards, she became Rahi Birla.Rakhi is the youngest of four sisters. Her father says that he and his wife did not want the fourth child and they tried all the options available to abort the child but the almighty had different things in store for the family. Rakhi did Masters in Mass Communication from NBA School Of Mass Communication, New Delhi.She worked as Assistant Producer in a TV channel but left the job and started working as a social activist. She belongs to' Valmiki' community and has been in the forefront for demanding justice to the ‘Dalit' community.Rekha joined Arvind Kejriwal's team during Lokpal movement.Her father Bhupendra Singh ‘Bidhlan' was a Congress worker for a long time but he left the party during Anna Hazare's Lokpal movement.In Delhi elections of 2013, she contested from ‘Mongolpuri' and defeated four-time MLA and a senior minister in Sheila Dikshit govt , Rajkumar Chauhan, by more than 10,000 votes.Today she is the minister for Women and child, social welfare and languages in Arvind Kejriwal cabinet.At 26 years of age, she is the youngest ever cabinet minister of Delhi government.
