New Delhi, Jan 7: Kalyan Singh, ex-CM of UP, has decided not to join BJP on January 21. But there is no change in his plans of merging his Jan Kranti Party (Rashtrawadi) with the BJP on the same date.

Actually it was a tough choice for Kalyan Singh. Being an independent MP, he could not afford to join BJP as it would have made it necessary for him to resign from his Lok Sabha seat.

Clarifying the decision of Kalyan Singh, the UP state president of BJP Laxmi Kant Bajpai said,”"He is an independent MP. He will have to resign from the Lok Sabha if he has to join the BJP. It has been decided that while his party will merge with the BJP, he wouldn't join it.

"His son Rajveer Singh, who is the president of Jan Kranti Party will formally join the BJP in presence of our senior leaders (including party president Nitin Gadkari). Kalyan will be present at the function," Bajpai said.

It is said that BJP president Nitin Gadkari wanted Kalyan to resign from his LS seat so that he could devote all his time for the party in the state but Kalyan was not willing to sacrifice his parliamentary membership.

Senior BJP leaders of the state are of the opinion that Kalyan Singh is no longer concerned with his own political future and that his only priority is to re-launch the political career of his son Rajveer Singh.

What is interesting is the fact that Kalyan wants to maintain his independent identity . He has been taking stand contrary to the official BJP stands. Recently, he said publically that he will oppose the reservation in job promotion bill. BJP, on the other hand, has already declared its support to the bill.
