Mumbai, Sep 24 : As if one embarrassment after another over the way Commonwealth Games are being held was not enough, CWG Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi on Friday received brickbats from a Congress colleague, saying he should quit all party posts and also as a member of Lok Sabha for 'bringing disgrace to Maharashtra'.
"Leaders like Lokmanya Tilak, B R Ambedkar, Y B Chavan and Shankarrao Chavan made Maharashtra proud in Delhi and the country. In the golden jubilee year of Maharashtra, Kalmadi has disgraced such leadership heritage and maligned the state's image," MPCC spokesperson Anant Gadgil told PTI here.
Emphasising that he was speaking in his 'personal capacity', Gadgil, son of former Union minister V N Gadgil, said Kalmadi should quit all party posts on moral grounds.
"Kalmadi has no mroal ground to remain a Lok Sabha member from Pune city. Pune citizens don't want him to be their MP," Gadgil, general secretary of MPCC, said.
"It is a shame that when country is facing several serious issues, the Prime Minister had to personally get involved in clearing the CWG mess," Gadgil said. PTI
