BJP is all set to emerge as a single largest part in Jharkhand. However, the party's mission 44+ did not work in J&K and it is trailing behind PDP.

Out of a total of 81 assembly seats in Jharkhand, BJP alliance is leading in 42 seats. BJP Parliamentary Part will meet tomorrow to decide the name of the new Chief Minister of the state. The party is reportedly mulling over selecting a tribal Chief Minister.

Jammu and Kashmir, on the other hand, looks to be heading for a hung assembly with no party getting a clear majority.
According to the latest trends available, PDP is leading in 28 seats while the BJP is leading in 25 seats. Congress is ahead in 12 seats while the ruling National Conference is leading in just 15 seats.
The trends suggest that PDP is doing very well in Kashmir valley, while the BJP is way ahead of others in Jammu region.
In J&K, Outgoing Chief Minister Omar Abdullah won from Beerwah but lost in Sonawar while his National Conference, which was the single largest party in 2008 assembly polls with 28 seats, bagged 15 seats this time.
Congress, which was part of the ruling coalition led by Omar, won 11 seats and was ahead in one. It had won 17 seats in the last election.
Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather was among the prominent losers. Omar defeated Congress' Nazir Ahmed in Beerwah but lost to PDP candidate Mohammad Ashraf Mir from Sonawar seat while Rather was defeated by opposition party's Ghulam Nabi Lone from Charar-e-Sharief. This was Rather's first defeat in assembly elections since 1977.
Among the prominent winners were People's Democratic Party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed from Anantnag and former JK Bank chairman Haseeb Drabu from Pulawama as the party swept all four Assembly seats in Pulwama district.
Separatist turned mainstream politician Sajjad Gani Lone defeated National Conference minister Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan from Handwara.
Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand of Congress lost to BJP's Krishan Lal from Chamb constituency by a margin of 14,790 votes.
Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami (CPIM) was trailing by 200 votes against PDP candidate Nazir Ahmad Laway from Kulgam constituency.
The lone woman minister in Omar Abdullah government, Sakina Itoo of National Conference, was trailing by over 4000 votes against PDP candidate Abdul Majid Padder. BJP, which bagged 11 seats last time, has won 24 seats and was ahead in one.
In Jharkhand, the BJP-AJSU alliance is headed for the magic figure of 42 in the 81-member house.
If the BJP manages to reach the tally, it will be the first time that Jharkhand will see a majority government after witnessing governments falling like nine pins.
Prominent JMM winners are Chief Minister Hemant Soren who won from Barhait constituency, but lost from Dumka of which he is the sitting MLA.
Though the BJP is marching ahead, its heavyweight leader and three-time Chief Minister Arjun Munda lost from Kharsawan.
However, the party's national vice-president Raghuvar Das won the Jamshedpur East seat.
BJP's alliance partner AJSU suffered a jolt as its chief and former deputy chief minister Sudesh Mahto lost from his home turf Silli, which he had represented for 15 years.
Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) has won five seats and is leading in two others, but its chief and Jharkhand's first Chief Minister Babulal Marandi lost from Giridih.
He, however, is leading from Dhanwar constituency. Former CM and Jai Bharat Samanta Party chief Madhu Koda, who was recently chargeesheeted by the CBI in the coal block allocation scam, lost the Majhgaon seat, but his wife Geeta Koda retained the Jaganthpur seat.
The BJP has contested 72 seats while its alliance partner AJSU contested 8 seats. Another alliance partner LJP contested one seat. In the 2009 Assembly election the BJP had won 18 seats.

India TV-CVoter exit poll: PDP may fall short of majority in J&K, BJP in sight of power in Jharkhand
The five-phase polling in the two states, stretched for nearly a month, saw 66 per cent turnout.
In Jammu and Kashmir, where polling was held for 87 seats, the turnout was the highest after 1987 despite boycott calls by separatists and militants.
The militancy-hit state is witnessing a four-cornered fight between the ruling National Conference (NC), opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP), BJP and Congress.
In the previous assembly elections, National Conference had won 28, Congress 17, PDP 21, BJP 11 and 'Others' 10 seats.
In the previous assembly polls, the JMM and BJP had won 18 seats each, Congress had won 14, JVM had won 11 and 'Others' 20 seats.
This was the third assembly elections in Jharkhand in 14 years of its existence. The state has seen nine governments interspersed with three periods of President rule. The state has so far been ruled by five tribal CMs-- Babulal Marandi, Arjun Munda (thrice), Shibu Soren (thrice), Madhu Koda (once) and Hemant Soren (incumbent).
The term of Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir Assemblies ends on January 3 and January 19, respectively.
