New Delhi: Jamia Millia Islamia's media co-ordinator Mukesh Ranjan on Saturday rubbished the reports of protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the university's convocation invite.
"Narendra Modi is our PM, he has been elected by people of India. We have invited the PM for our convocation ceremony, hope he is able to take out time and come," he said.
Earlier, there were reports that Jamia Millia Islamia's invite to the Prime Minister for the convocation has triggered a strong reaction among some of the alumni who have written to the Vice Chancellor urging him to withdraw it in view of the comments made by Narendra Modi against the varsity in 2008.
The letter jointly written by Asad Ashraf (2007-2010) and Mahtab Alam (2001-2003) batch has been signed by over 50 registered members of the alumni association of the varsity. However, Jamia has ruled out any such possibility.
Jamia had earlier this month sent an invite to Modi to be the chief guest at its annual convocation this year. However, the varsity has not received any acceptance or acknowledgment from the PMO so far in this regard.
