Hyderabad: Despite the reservations of the party high command, Congress MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is set to resume his controversial 'Odarpu yatra' in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh on Friday .

Jagan's yatra would continue and it has nothing to do with the party high command's offer of financial assistance to the families of those who died following the death of Y S Rajasekhara Reddy last year, Ambati Rambabu, a close confidante of the Kadapa MP, said on Thursday.

"What is the need to stop the yatra? How high command's decision and Jagan's yatra are related ? Odarpu yatra is sentimental," Ambati Rambabu said in Tirupati today.

"Odarpu yatra would start as per scheduled tomorrow. I feel it is the responsibility of Jagan to continue the yatra till the last family is consoled," he added. Jagan would console 41 families during his 15-day tour in Prakasam district, sources said. State Mines Minister Balineni Srinivasa Reddy, a close relative of the YSR family, said the yatra in Prakasam would last for 15 days.

Jagan started the 'odarpu yatra' in May to console the family members of those who died following the death of his father in West Godavari district last year.

Defying the party high command's directives, Jagan left for Mahabubabad in Warangal to start the second phase of yatra in July but the attempt met with violent protests following which he was forced to abandon the move.

Despite the high command's directives, Jagan undertook the second phase of yatra in Srikakulam and East Godavari districts during which he attacked Chief Minister K Rosaiah. Taking exception to the attacks on him by some senior Congress leaders, he had said his patience might not last long. PTI
