New Delhi, Aug 24 : In an embarrassment for Congress, a party MP from Andhra Pradesh loyal to Y S Jaganmohan Reddy today resigned from Lok Sabha to protest mention of late YSR's name in CBI's FIR in a case related to the Kadapa MP. Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy, the MP from Nellore in coastal Andhra region, met Speaker Meira Kumar this morning and submitted his resignation.
Reddy, who has been siding with Jaganmohan Reddy ever since he quit the Congress and launched his own outfit, said he was upset over the manner in which late YSR and his son were being treated by the party.
“There are several reasons for my resignation. One is the way Jaganmohan Reddy is being treated by the Centre and the way Andhra Pradesh as a state is being treated,” he told PTI after submitting his resignation.
Anakapalli MP Sabbam Hari, who is also a Jagan loyalist, was present during Reddy's meeting with Kumar. “We have been upset ever since CBI named late YSR who was responsible for bringing the party back to power in Andhra Pradesh in a FIR,” he told reporters outside Parliament House.
Reddy's resignation comes close on the heels of 24 party MLAs and two TDP rebel legislators resigning over the same issue.
The ruling Congress MLAs resigned both from the Assembly and the primary membership of the party over the issue and had faxed the resignation letters to APCC headquarters on Monday. PTI
