Sachin's deceased father, Rajesh Pilot had a dream of watching his son serving his nation through the armed forces. Thus, Sachin became the first Union Minister of India to be given the duty as a regular officer in the Territorial Army.
Sachin has written a book on his father called Rajesh Pilot: In Spirit Forever which has been co-authored by his sister Sarrika Pilot.
