Rajnath Singh has taken the lead of the party for the second time at an interesting juncture. Initially, a professor by profession Singh worked in Mirzapur.Since the early age of 13 years, Rajnath was associated with Rashtirya Swayamsevak Sangh.In 1974, he became the secretary of the Mirzpaur unit of Bhartiya Jan Sangh. As an Education Minister in the first ever BJP government in Uttar Pradesh he played a prominent role in introducing changes in the education system. He enacted the anti-copying law in 1992 and even an enemy state like Pakistan was curious about the law enacted by him, which stopped copying in UP examinations. Rajnath Singh was also involved in ordering rewriting of history textbooks. He got vedic mathematics included in the syllabus.As Agriculture Minister in the NDA government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Rajnath Singh was instrumental in implementing Kisan credit cards and easy loans for farmers.Afer BJP's defeat in 2004 general elections, the party sat in the opposition.
