Ranchi: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren yesterday assured people of 124 villages that their interest was paramount in the wake of the proposed construction of a dam in West Singhbhum district.
"Each work (project) taken up by the government is in the interest of the people. And works will be initiated only after taking the people into consideration," Soren said.
He assured a delegation led by Chaibasa MLA Deepak Birua, which drew the chief minister's attention that in the wake of construction of the dam 124 villages would be wiped out.
The delegation quoted a 1981 survey report that 50,000 families would be affected if the dam was constructed.
After hearing the delegation under the banner of "Swarnarekha Project's Icha Dam Bisthapith Sangh," Soren assured them that his government would look into it
constructively.
