Inside story of how I-T raids led to Gadkari exiting from race for BJP chief

New Delhi, Jan 23: Everything was going hunky-dory for BJP president Nitin Gadkari till Tuesday morning, with the RSS standing firmly behind him, when news came about the Income-Tax survey of investor companies of Mumbai

As Advani met Gadkari in Pune,  senior RSS leader Bhaiyyaji Joshi communicated to Gadkari that he should now quit the race. Gdkari was also told that senior RSS and BJP leaders are now almost unanimous about Rajnath Singh.

A meeting took place at Arun Jaitley's residence at  around 9 pm in Delhi attended by the Big Four plus Ram Lal, Muralidhar Rao and Rajnath Singh.

At the meeting, Venkaiah Naidu's name was also floated by Jaitley, but the other leaders backed Rajnath Singh. It was finally decided that the party parliamentary board would meet on Wednesday morning to approve Rajnath Singh's name as president.
