New Delhi: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi today morning arrived in Australia on the second leg of his three-nation tour.In Australia, Modi will attend the G20 summit in Brisbane. He will also visit Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne.He is slated to hold a number of bilateral meetings with world leaders on the sidelines of the G20, including with Germany's Angela Merkel, Britain's David Cameron and France's Francois Hollande.Modi will be the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Australia since Rajiv Gandhi in 1986.He will also address the Indian expatriate crowd at a mega event in Sydney and also address the Australian Parliament in Canberra.The Prime Minister will attend a dinner at the iconic Melbourne cricket ground, to be hosted by Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott.In Myanmar, he attended the ASEAN-India and East Asia Summit and also met a host of leaders of Southeast Asia as well as Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.In this photo released by G20 Australia, Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, left, walks with Australia's Attorney-General George Brandis on his arrival at Brisbane Airport ahead of the G-20 summit in Brisbane, Australia, Friday, Nov. 14, 2014. Brisbane is playing host to top officials from the 20 biggest industrialized and developing economies for a two day meeting from Saturday Nov.15.Research is the mother of development, visiting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on an agricultural robot developed by the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) during a visit to the university here Friday.In his first engagement at Brisbane, where he landed earlier in the day on the second leg of his three-nation visit, Modi visited the QUT.There was palpable excitement among the student community, which also includes a large number of those of Indian origin.Modi was asked to write a message on the agricultural robot, and he wrote in Hindi "research is the mother of development", according to a tweet by the ministry of external affairs spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin.Curious students gathered around the robot to read what the Indian prime minister had written.A translation of the entire message was posted by the university.It read: "Research is key to development. There is ongoing relationship between development journey of humankind and research. Increasing dominance of science and technology in the field of agriculture will surely prove to be beneficial to farmers and to the field of agriculture as a whole. It is an important endeavour for the welfare of mankind. Best wishes for your effort."The Agro Robot is a lightweight machine that performs the functions of a large tractor, including weeding.Modi took a walk around the university to learn more about the agricultural research going on there, including how to enhance the bio-technological processes to fortify bananas with more iron content.The prime minster also wished the children on Children's Day, celebrated on the birth anniversary of India's first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru."I am fortunate to be among children on Chacha Nehru's birthday," an MEA tweet cited Modi as saying.Many researchers of the Indian origin community were seen taking selfies with the prime minister.Modi met researchers, the student community and got an update on projects focused on bio-fuels, bio-fortification and agro-robotics. Prime Minister Narendra Modi today held his first meeting with British Premier David Cameron who described relations with India as top priority of the UK's foreign policy and invited the Indian leader to Britain. The bilateral meeting took place shortly after Modi arrived here on a five-day visit to Australia to attend the G20 Summit beginning tomorrow.At their meeting, Cameron told Modi that “relations with India are at the top of the priorities of the UK's foreign policy.”The British Premier also invited Modi to visit the UK to which the Indian Prime Minister said he would do so at the earliest, the Ministry of External Affairs spokesman Syed Akbaruddin said.Modi told Cameron that his vision was “very inspiring” and the two countries can partner in any way they can. The UK Premier was one of the first world leaders to congratulate Modi following his victory in the general elections in May.Earlier, Cameron's spokesperson had said that the Brisbane meeting was set to strengthen the broad and deep relationship that UK and India have, building on a partnership of equals based on mutual respect. The Indian community in the UK is keen to have a visit by Prime Minister Modi to inaugurate Mahatma Gandhi's statue which is being raised outside the Palace of Westminster in London's Parliament Square.The statue will stand amid monuments to other statesmen, including Nelson Mandela, Winston Churchill and Abraham Lincoln. Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday met Japanese Premier Shinzo Abe at a dinner hosted by the latter in the Australian city of Brisbane."Happy to meet you once again," Modi tweeted on meeting Abe.Modi met Abe during his official visit to Japan in August-September this year.The two leaders are here to attend the G20 summit scheduled to take place Nov 15-16.
