Kolkata: West Bengal Governor K N Tripathi today said that he was not “initially” informed about the arrest of the state's sports and transport minister Madan Mitra by the CBI in its ongoing probe into the Saradha scam.

“Yes, initially I was not informed, but later on the investigating agency informed me about it,” Tripathi told reporters on the sidelines of a programme here today.  State education minister Partha Chatterjee accompanied by some other ministers who met the Governor yesterday had said that neither the Governor , the state government nor the Speaker were informed about the arrest of Mitra, who is a cabinet minister.

Meanwhile, sources at the state-run SSKM Hospital, where Mitra was yesterday admitted after he complained of chest pain and respiratory distress, said that a medical board to monitor the minister's health condition was likely to be formed on Monday.

“A medical board may be formed on Monday to monitor Mr Mitra's health condition. He underwent lots of stress and strain in the last few days and we need to check whether there is any change in the parameters compared to tests done on him last time he was admitted here,” a senior doctor at the state-run hospital said.

Last night, the minister was admitted to the cardiology department of the hospital and he was shifted to a cabin, sources said.

Mitra was remanded to judicial custody till January 2 by a city court yesterday following which he was taken to the jail.
