Palwal: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today said the state government was committed to its policy of “zero tolerance” towards corruption.
“Since there would be no corruption at the top level, there should not be any corruption at the lower level also,” he said here.
Addressing a meeting of officers in Palwal district, he asked them to pull the plug on corruption which should have no space in civil society.
“We should not indulge in graft for fear of the law. As members of civil society we should on our own not indulge in it. It is our country and our society, why should we get involved in corruption,” he asked.
Describing corruption as “cancer”, he, as per an official release, said that providing a corruption-free government would be among his top priorities.
“As Prime Minister Narendra Modi has described himself as Pradhan Sewak, we should also work with the same spirit to serve the masses”, he added.
The Chief Minister said that the social security pensions, including the old age allowance for the month of January payable in February would be directly deposited in the bank accounts of beneficiaries.
He directed concerned officers to ensure that all eligible beneficiaries in the district open their bank accounts by December 31, 2014 even if it requires pressing additional machinery into action.
He also asked them to reduce the line losses in the district which aggregated 40 per cent and motivate people to pay their bills on time.
He said that the state government was committed to providing a transparent administration.
“We will tell people what we are doing and will show what we have done. And there would be no difference between what we have done and what we had committed”, he said.
Efforts would be made to bridge the hiatus between the people and the government which had widened under the previous regime, he said.
He directed officers to maintain proper coordination with the people and this could be possible only if they shed the sense of supremacy.
