Dehradun: Congratulating people on the implementation of Food Security Scheme in the state, Chief Minister Harish Rawat said Uttarakhand is one of the first states in the country where the scheme has been implemented.

The Chief Minister has also asked officials to put all necessary arrangements in place to ensure smooth operation of the scheme from which 65 lakh card holders across the state will benefit, Rawat's media incharge Surendra Kumar said here today.

“People who don't come under the ambit of the scheme will be covered under a separate state food security scheme,” Kumar said, quoting the CM.

National Food Security scheme was implemented in the state yesterday.

Secretary food and civil supplies Ravinath Raman said the Centre will provide 5.30 lakh metric tonnes of foodgrains to the state per annum under the scheme.

Card holders will get wheat at the rate of Rs two per kg and rice at the rate of Rs 3 per kg under the scheme, he said.

The state government will launch a state food security scheme for those not covered under the central scheme under which they will get 10 kgs of wheat at the rate of Rs 6.10 per kg and five kgs of rice at the rate of Rs 8.45 per kg every month, Raman said.
