New Delhi: Amid outrage over the rape of a 27-year-old woman executive, Union Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi on Monday said that the government would set up dedicated cells in every district for providing security to the fairer sex.
Expressing anguish over the incident, Gandhi said the need of the hour was to increase vigilance.
"We all need to pitch in for making the environment safe for women. I strongly condemn incidents of violence against women," she said, addressing a rally organised by BJP at Rithala area of North East Delhi.
"We have decided to form women cells comprising a doctor, nurse, lawyer, psychologist and a lady police officer in every district. The cell will help women overcome their fear of authority. The cell comprises all those people a woman requires to fight the law and get justice," she said. The rally was organised as part of BJP's campaign in the city for upcoming Assembly polls.
The minister also promised that unauthorised colonies will be regularised. "BJP will take up the issue of regularising the unauthorised colonies of the city in our agenda with vigour and determination," she said.
"The people from such colonies face a range of problems like drinking water, sanitation, roads, transport connectivity and the absence of schools and hospitals. The long pending requests of regularising their settlements will be taken up soon," she said.
