New Delhi: The government is planning a CBI enquiry into the functioning of an NGO which took aid in the name of disabled but was allegedly involved in malpractices, Social Justice Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot said Tuesday.
"There is an NGO in Uttar Pradesh which took aid in the name of the disabled but was involved in malpractices. We have referred the case to law department for their suggestions so that it can be forwarded to CBI," Gehlot said at a press conference at Press Information Bureau (PIB) here.
Asked if he was referring to foreign minister Salman Khurshid's trust, the minister said: "I am not denying it, you can understand".
A report based on a sting operation October last year said a trust being run by the then external affairs minister Salman Khurshid and his wife Louise Khurshid allegedly forged signatures and faked stamps of senior officials of Uttar Pradesh to receive grants from the union government for welfare of the disabled.
The report said that the aid was however not distributed to the handicapped people.
