Swachh Bharat Abhiyan'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' created a mega impact in society as it was launched on October 2, the day Mahatma Gandhi was born.Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself launched this mission and took it to masses. According to data available on www.narendramodi.in, the BJP-led NDA government constructed 58,55666 toilets in its one year regime compared to UPA's last year of rule (2013-14) 49,76,294 toilets.Former PM Rajiv Gandhi had in 1986 launched the Central Rural Sanitation Programme. In 1999, when BJP-led Atal Bihari Vajpayee government came to power at the Centre, the Complete Sanitation Campaign was launched. But no previous government had shown commitment exhibited by PM Modi.The programme includes elimination of open defecation, conversion of unsanitary toilets to pour flush toilets, eradication of manual scavenging, municipal solid waste management and bringing about a behavioural change in people regarding healthy sanitation practices.Government will construct 11 crore toilets in these 5 years at the cost of Rs 1.34 lakh crore to end the highly unsanitary practice of open defecation in India.The national campaign covers 4041 statutory towns across India.Make In IndiaIt is an initiative of the Indian government to encourage companies to manufacture their products in India.It was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 25 September last year. Since then, Make in India initiative has been on main agenda in various foreign visits of the Prime Minister.The major objective behind the initiative is to focus on 25 sectors of the economy for job creation and skill enhancement. Some of these sectors are: automobiles, chemicals, IT, pharmaceuticals, textiles, ports, aviation, leather, tourism and hospitality, wellness, railways, auto components, design manufacturing, renewable energy, mining, bio-technology, and electronics.The data displayed on www.narendramodi.in says that Make In India boost the production sector with industrial production growth registered at 2.8 per cent in last one year.Coal ProductionThe government data claims that coal production increased by 32 million tonnes in last year and also highest in last four year. In last one year, 494 million tonnes coal was produced compared to last year of UPA's government when 462 million tonnes were produced.A top government official recently said that coal supply is no longer a problem in the country and several new mines are coming on stream.Coal and Power Minister Piyush Goyal recently said that India achieved a record 32 million tonnes increase in production of the fossil fuel in the last year. According to him, increased coal production led to a 12 per cent increase in power production last year.About two dozen brownfield and greenfield mining projects were made operational last year.Coal is one of the eight core sectors tracked by the government, including crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, fertiliser, electricity, steel and cement.TourismNarendra Modi government recognised tourism as a key sector which can hugely contribute to India's foreign exchange earnings. To boost the foreign travel arrivals (FTA), the government took a number of initiatives which is finally paying off.The Modi government claims that in the last one year, the number of foreign tourists arrivals in India has increased by 8.1% and the foreign exchange earnings got a boost of 10%.The e-tourist visa and visa on arrivals services provided by the government also gave a big boost to the tourism industry. The citizens from 43 countries are currently eligible for e-tourist visa.According to the data provided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's website http://www.narendramodi.in/, No. of foreign tourist arrivals in the country in 2013-14 was 62,60,914 whereas 67,70,076 tourist visited India in 2014-15.The foreign exchange earnings through tourism were recorded $15.517 billion in 2013-14 whereas the revenue was $17.073 in the year 2014-15.Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan YojanaOut of many social schemes launched By Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) has been one of the most successful and appreciated.The scheme was launched on August 28, 2014 for comprehensive financial inclusion of the citizens. He had announced this scheme on his first Independence Day speech on August 15.PMJDY enables citizens to ensure access to financial services, namely, Banking/ Savings & Deposit Accounts, Remittance, Credit, Insurance, Pension in an affordable manner. An account can be opened in any bank branch or Business Correspondent (Bank Mitr) outle under this scheme zero balance.The mission made it to Guinness Book of World Records for its 11.50 crore accounts in a span of five months.In total, more than 15.59 crore accounts have been opened under the scheme, as per the data available on government's website. Rs 16918.91 crore of amount was deposited in the accounts opened under the scheme and 13.96 crore Rupay cards were issued.ElectricityEven after 15 years in 21st century, the country faces acute shortage of electrical power. In spite of an installed capacity of 267.637 Giga Watt as of end March 2015 and electricity generation around 1048.5 BU, very few areas in the country get 24 hours supply. Many villages are yet to get electricity supply.Recognising this, PM Modi emphasised on reviving the sector with new power plants. To give a boost to nuclear power generation, a deal was made with Canada to supply Uranium. The efforts are yet to be paid in long term but instant results are encouraging.As per the data given on website http://www.narendramodi.in, the growth in electricity generation in the year 2014-15 was 8.4% whereas the last year it was 6%. The sector added 22,566 Mega Watt this year alone, up by 27% from last year's 17,769 MW.The Modi government also added 22,101 kilometres of transmission lines in a year of its rule 325 more than the last year's addition.Road ConstructionNarendra Modi government's commitment towards the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) is evident from its first year in office. In the Union Budget 2014-15. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley allocated Rs 14,389 crore for the scheme.It gave significant boost to the road infrastructure in the country as well as helped in realizing the hidden potential.1. Roads ConstructionAs compared to 25,262 kilometer (km) of roads constructed in UPA tenure 2013-2014, the year 2014-15, (NDA rule) witness significant rise of 46% in road infrastructure with 36,883 kilometers (km) roads built.2. Habitations ConnectedA rise of 68% is recorded in habitations connected through PMGSY. In 2013-2014, the figure was 6,542 while in 2014-15 it escalated to 10, 990.3. Highway Projects AwardedDuring UPA rule (2013-14) 3621 km of highway projects were awarded as compared to 7980 kms in the year 2014-15.This year, the government plans to award Rs 3 lakh crore of road projects as it looks to more than double highway construction to 30 km per day.InflationThe first year under Narendra Modi regime brought good news for the economy, as inflation touched 9 years low.Based on wholesale price index, the inflation in India in April 2015 stands at -2.65% as compared to 5.55% in April 2014.The trickle down effect of reducing inflation brought reduction in the prices of household items, as per the 'Saal Ek Shuruat Anek' campaign by the government. The financial year also witnessed 50% fall in the Consumer Price Index. It stood at 8.48% in April 2014 against 4.87% in April this year.Furthermore, govt. data shows significant decline in Food & Beverage Inflation with index coming down to 5.36% in April 2015 from 9.89% in April last year.Foreign Direct InvestmentPrime Minister Narendra Modi gets the credit for opening doors for Foreign Direct Investment in the insurance, defense and other sectors.The government data shows 39% escalation in the FDI flows in the country as NDA government completes one year in office.From April 2013 to Feb 2014 FDI equity inflows stood at 20, 766 millions whereas from April 2014 to Feb 2015, the figure rose to 28,813 millions.
